Coordinated research initiatives for the early detection, interception, and prevention of cancer
Early detection & prevention pillar
Cancer early detection and prevention are a major unmet need and an absolute priority. The time has come, and technologies allow us to bring oncologic approaches to an earlier, preclinical setting. Emerging cancer early detection, interception, and prevention strategies are organ and tumor type agnostic and currently require complex transversal, trans-organ approaches through international, high-level, trans-expertise collaborations.
CCE’s early detection and
prevention purpose
Cancer Core Europe groups the biggest European Comprehensive Cancer Centers, all with high-level tertiary referral clinical and research activities. These centers have decided to share their high-level, very complementary, cancer early detection, interception, and prevention expertise in many domains, including epidemiology, genetics, mathematics, AI, modeling, health economics, basic biology, biotechnologies, data science, clinical research, and social sciences.
A fourth pillar has been created during spring 2023, which is dedicated to cancer early detection and prevention. It will primarily focus on higher-risk populations, where the medical need is highest, building on the opportunity of the major efforts currently ongoing to demonstrate the benefit of population-level risk stratification. Our vision is that early cancer detection cannot be currently developed per se but shall be smartly built in conjunction with interceptive interventions. We aim to contribute to building these interventions through important and synergic research efforts. Beyond research, this pillar intends to develop high-level education on this topic within the CCE network.
